Best Nighttime Beauty Tips That Actually Work

Hi girls, how are you today?

When it comes to beauty care routines, they say it is with your nighttime routine that the real magic happens.

Of course, morning routines are important too, especially when we are talking about sunscreen – but there is nothing better than that feeling of sleeping with no makeup and a fresh face.

Moreover, another reason the nighttime routine is important is that the products that you apply to your clean face just before you go to sleep get fully absorbed into your skin as you sleep.

For those reasons, I am part of the group of strong believers that it is super, duper important for you to have healthy beauty habits in place just before you go to bed.

Being a lover of the 10-step Korean skincare routine, beauty care is something that is I highly esteem. With that in mind, today I am sharing overnight beauty tips to get glowing hair and skin.

Let’s get into what you need to include in your daily night routine!

12 Top Nighttime Beauty Tips For Women to Follow Every Night

#1 Remove Makeup Every Night (pre-cleanse)

The first thing you should do every night as a grown-ass woman is to remove your makeup every night, no exception. It doesn’t matter how much or how little makeup you are wearing, take it off!

Step 1 to ensure your skin is clear, and to reduce the likeliness of blemishes, you need to remove all grit, dirt, and old makeup from your skin.

TIP – If you want to follow a complete 10-steps Korean Skincare Routine (and if you wear heavy makeup, especially) try doing your pre-cleanse by removing makeup with oil. Simply gently rub a few droplets of facial oil against your face in a circular motion for about a minute.

Wash it off with warm water and you’re done with the first step of cleansing.

I am IN LOVE with this Kiehls Midnight Recovery facial oil. It smells amaaazing (like lavender, and who doesn’t love lavender smell, especially at night?).

#2 Cleanse Daily

Next, you want to remove the excess oil by cleansing your skin with foam soap and water. Cleansing with foam soap as a second step ensures eliminating any leftover makeup debris or oil that your first cleanse didn’t get.

When choosing the best soap for your skin type try to use organic products that are 100% natural and can help you to get rid of excessive oils on your skin. Products that contain natural ingredients such as grape seed oil, tea tree oil, lavender oil, calendula oil, aloe vera, or goat milk are way better for your skin than harsh chemicals. For instance, you can use pure goat milk soaps that contain lactic acid, which helps to bring balance into your skin and collect healthy bacteria on your skin surface. Always make sure that your skin is clean before stepping into masks or serums.

The cleansers I’ve been using lately are the Philosophy Purity Made Simple One Step Facial Cleanser and the Rice Water Bright Foaming Cleanser

# 3 Exfoliate Up to 2x Times a Week

Did you know that exfoliating your skin is actually a great way to reduce the signs of aging? It’s true!

In fact, exfoliating gets rid of extra skin cells which can cling to wrinkles and fine lines.

This helps reduce the appearance of those fine lines and keep your skin looking youthful and glowing.

Plus, exfoliating is a great way to slough off any extra grit or dirt on your skin which can contribute to acne and blemishes.

# 4 Use a Toner

12 Nighttime Beauty Tips for Glowing Hair and Skin

I used to not understand the point of it, however, one thing I only began to appreciate in the last few years is the magic of a toner and it is in my list for all my nighttime beauty tips I give.

Not a day passes by that I don’t use toner on my skin.

Be careful though, because many toners for some reason have alcohol in their formula, and I don’t believe alcohol is good for any skin type, even oily.

I am a big fan of the Kiehls Calendula Toner (it actually comes with flowers inside, which feels so luxurious), or the Beauty Water (from Son & Park, a popular Korean brand. The beauty water also acts as a toner, cleanser and moisturizer, so triple yay).

# 5 Use a Serum

Serums are the “boosters” of your skincare routine and they are specific to each skin need. This is where you really can focus on anti-aging, hydration, or boosting your skin’s overall vibrancy.

I love serums, and I am so glad I’ve discovered a few amazing ones that have become integral to my beauty routine. I like alternating them to test out different results.

Adding this into your usual skincare routine gives you that extra-bump which will help prevent your skin from getting fine lines to wrinkles.

# 6 De-puff

Option 1 – Facial Roller

Have you ever tried a face roller? They are great to massage your face and help with the overall blood circulation. Skincare addicts say that if you use a de-puffer every day it can help with your overall skin radiance and fine lines.

I enjoy using one I bought in Japan.

Option 2 – Cold Under Eye Press

Has your grandma ever instructed you to place spoons under your eyes whenever you look tired? Old beauty habits knew that applying cold compress to the under eye helps with tired eyes.

Ice cold gels, ice cold water, ice cubes, eye creams chilled in the refrigerator, and cold facial masks can all help to get rid of puffy eyes. This is simply because the colder temperatures reduce swelling, which is part of the cause of a puffy eyed appearance

If you want something more professional than using ice cubes under your eyes, Fraicheur Paris ice globes are one of my favorite beauty tools ever. I keep mine inside the fridge at all times and use it first thing in the morning and it works wonders. It’s perfect to relax at the end of the day too.

# 7 Moisturize Daily

Another one of my nighttime beauty tips is to always be sure to hydrate your face. When it comes to keeping your skin youthful, there’s nothing more essential to your skincare routine than your moisturizer (yes, even if you have oily skin).

In fact, hydration is key when it comes to your anti-aging regime.

I hydrate my skin with 2 steps: 1) Face Mists 2) Hydrating Cream / Sleeping Mask:

1. Face Mists

A face mist is the second step in your skincare ritual. After cleansing, close your eyes and spritz your mist around your face. Face mists are rich in minerals and are packed with hydrating and soothing ingredients.

I love alternating face mists. It is a great way to refresh during the summer months.

2. Sleeping Mask

I don’t mean a mask to block out light, but a deep hydrating mask.

During the winter, I use a heavier moisturizer at night to make sure my skin remains well and hydrated when I wake up, while in the spring and summer, I prefer lighter moisturizers.

Before bed, apply a sleeping mask to help lock in all your skincare products and keep your skin hydrated for the next day.

# 8 Use an Eye Cream or Eye Gel

I’ve always had huge brown eyes and people always comment them. For that reason, I am extra protective of any wrinkles around my eye area (I want to maintain it youthful looking for as long as I can).

That is why I have started using eye cream since my early twenties. An eye cream helps hydrate your eyes to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles.

Another one of my nighttime beauty tips that I really love are eye gels. I recently purchased one called Marine Energy Eye Mask from Shangpree. They had gels for different purposes.

The one I bought was for puffy eyes and it has been working wonders for me. I like using it once or twice a week whenever I feel my eyes are extra tired (usually Mondays and Wednesdays)

TIP

Leave your eye cream/eye gel inside the fridge. This way it will also help reduce the look of under-eye puffiness.

# 9 Use a Spot Patch

They promised me acne would be something I’d be over it as soon as I left my teen years. Unfortunately, my acne has changed from my forehead to my skin and cheeks.

Whenever I have a little pimple trying to pop out, I like placing a pimple patch and leaving it overnight. This pimple patch helps with the scarring and blemishing. I am using the Kocostar Face Spot Patch. Each package comes with 30 patches.

# 10 Hydrate Your Lips

My lips tend to be dry and whenever the seasons change, they get super chapped and that’s why I am putting extra care into my lip care now before bed.

Lips need hydration too, and the best time to wear an ultra-hydrating lip balm is overnight so that it has plenty of time to absorb without the annoying you with the feeling of something greasy on your lips.

My lips tend to be dry and whenever the seasons change, they get super chapped and that’s why I am putting extra care into my lip care now before bed.

Getting smooth and soft lips starts with care – which is why I always use a lip scrub and lip treatment balm. This Fresh Sugar Nourishing Lip Balm is extremely thick and emollient, so you’ll wake up with smooth, flake-free lips (plus it smells amazing).

This way I wake up with super soft lips that are lipstick-ready! I really love a Sephora lip exfoliator.

# 11 Use a Hair Serum

A little while ago I only used hair serums after blow-drying my hair. However lately I started having the habit of reapplying it just before sleeping.

Before heading to bed, I grab a small droplet, rub my hands together to warm it up, and run it through the ends of my hair from about the ear-level down.

This just helps keep it soft and shiny. Not to mention, it smells delicious (Cris loves the smell of the L’Ocicctane Hair Serum that I use).

#12 Use Dry Shampoo Overnight

Sure, dry shampoo will work well in the morning, however if you are not planning on washing your hair th next day, ry applying dry shampoo overnight instead. This way, the dry shampoo will have the entire night to soak up greasiness.

You’ll wake up in the morning with new hair that also smells really nice (and you’ll save so much time!). My current favorite dry shampoo is this Living Proof Perfect hair Day Dry Shampoo. I love it because it gives the hair volume and clears the grease. A cheaper alternative is this one, which I also use especially when I travel.

An alternative to dry shampoo is simply applying a bit of dry powder to your roots before going to bed. Dry powder absorbs grease and for years its been a homemade ”remedy’ for oily hair.

#13 Use a Silk Pillow

This is a huge tip that I recently picked up on and that has been game-changing. A silk pillow case is in fact great for improving one’s beauty sleep (and once you sleep with a silk pillowcase, you’ll never want to go back – my boyfriend keeps trying to steal mine, saying we should share it. No way, Felicia!)

Silk pillow cases helps avoid hair breakage and damage, keeping your hair soft and frizz-free. Aditionally, there are claims that it further helps to minimize wrinkles.

Plus, it just feels extremely luxurious, and who doesn’t deserve a luxurious night’s rest?

# 14 Hydrate your hands and feet

Last, but not least. Be sure to hydrate your hands and feet.

I for one hate that feeling of dry feet or hands rubbing against the blanket. It bothers me so much that I can’t sleep. That is why I like keeping next to my nightstand creams for my hand and feet, which I apply just before going to sleep.

Pro Tip

Wear hydrating gloves and hydrating socks for extra hydration.

I must confess to you girls that I was skeptical when I first tried this Karuna Hydrating+ Hand Mask. However, I was pleasantly surprised by it. It felt a little weird on, but I quickly got used to it and best of all, I could still do things like typing while wearing the gloves (even if it feels weird as hell). The next morning when I removed the gloves, my cuticles were visibly improved.

Alternatively, you can also do it DIY. After exfoliating your feet and hands, hydrate them both with a good chunk of cream and wrap them around individual plastic bags. Leave it on for 15 minutes and you’re good to go to sleep.

I honestly really enjoy doing feet masks while I watch TV with Cris after dinner. Nothing like getting pretty while being a couch potato.
